- January 6, 1959 – Kapildev Ramlal Nikhanj, cricketer and India’s finest all-rounder from 1978 to 1994, was born on 6 January 1959 in Chandigarh. He is better known as Kapil Dev and captained the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
- January 6, 1966 – Allah Rakha Rahman, born on 6 January 1966 as A. S. Dileep Kumar in Madras, is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist. He is better known as A. R. Rahman.
